The Halaal Department of the Muslim Association of Malawi (HD-MAM), in collaboration with its parent organization, the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), has formally entered into an agreement with Islamic Relief Malawi on 5th February 2026. This agreement stipulates that Islamic Relief Malawi will supply Halaal certified meat during seasonal humanitarian distributions, which encompass Ramadan food, Zakat Al-Fitr, Qurbaan meat, Aqiqah, and Eid gifts.
During the signing ceremony, Sheikh Abdulmajid Imedi Chibwe, the National Coordinator of the Halaal Department, signed the agreement on behalf of the Director of the Halaal Department, Haafiz Faisal Kassam. Sh. Rad Kangomba represented the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) by signing the agreement, showcasing MAM’s dedication to mobilizing the community and identifying beneficiaries.
After the ceremony, the Director of the Halaal Department expressed appreciation for the initiative taken by Islamic Relief to involve both the Halaal Department and the Muslim Association of Malawi in their food distribution programs. This partnership guarantees Halaal compliance and significantly contributes to the commendable work being undertaken. The Halaal Department and MAM have urged other organizations in the sector to contemplate adopting similar practices.
In his remarks, the Country Director of Islamic Relief Malawi, Ibro Madougou Abdoulaye, stated that his organization has undertaken this initiative to fulfill the wishes of the donors and to ensure transparency on the ground. He expressed gratitude to HD-MAM for accommodating their request.
The event took place at the new offices of Rainbow Paints in Limbe, Malawi.
