
Residents of Mitundu have been encouraged to adopt Halaal practices in their food business operations, as Halaal food is recognized for its quality and hygiene. This appeal was made by the Group Village Headman of Mitundu during a seminar hosted by the Halaal Department in his village on April 10, 2025. He urged local entrepreneurs to obtain Halaal certification, which serves as a guarantee of safe and healthy food.
The chief highlighted that Halaal food is not exclusively for Muslims only, it is also suitable for individuals of various faiths who seek clean and wholesome food options.
In his remarks, he praised the efforts of the police and requested their assistance in ensuring that Halaal standards are maintained by preventing the entry of illegal meat into the Mitundu market, thereby safeguarding the integrity of Halaal products.
The Group Village Headman expressed gratitude to the Halaal Department for organizing the seminar, noting its timely relevance and the benefits it provided to stakeholders.
In a statement on behalf of the Officer in Charge of the Mitundu police station, Mr. Bestar Mgodi condemned the actions of some Muslims who slaughter animals that are already dead, justifying it with the claim that the animal was still warm. This practice, he argued, is detrimental as it contributes to the distribution of non Halaal meat, which is unacceptable. He emphasized the necessity for collective efforts to address this issue, rather than relying solely on the police. He called for all stakeholders to participate in roadblocks to ensure thorough inspections of meat trafficking, allowing only those with proper documentation, including Halaal assurance to pass.
