Employees at the Halaal Department Have Been Called Upon to Stand Firm Against Bribery Attempts

Employees at the Halaal Department of the Muslim Association of Malawi have been reminded to uphold integrity and avoid any fraudulent activities while carrying out their responsibilities. During the annual meeting held on 1st June 2024 at Blantyre Lodge in the city of Blantyre, the organization’s Director, Haafiz Faisal Kassam, emphasized the importance of maintaining trust and not succumbing to bribery. It was highlighted that the Muslim community relies on the department’s employees to ensure the authenticity of Halaal food and products in the country, hence the need for a serious commitment to their duties. The Director encouraged the staff to approach their work with professionalism and dedication.

Sheikh Saad Saalim Altwalib who is the Director of Zam Zam in Malawi commended the Halaal Department for the commendable job it offers to the Musli community. He plauded the Department for setting a remarkable precedent of standards for Halaal certifying bodies regionally and worldwide, particularly due to its exceptional Halaal monitoring system. The Halaal Department’s system surpasses international organizations in terms of standardization, supervision, monitoring, and staffing, among other aspects. Furthermore, Sheikh Saad highlighted that the Halaal certification fees charged by the Halaal Department are incredibly affordable, almost negligible, in comparison to the fees imposed by international Halaal certifying bodies.

The HD staff joint meeting is an annual event aimed at assessing the accomplishments of the previous year and identifying areas for improvement in the upcoming year as the food industry is dynamic. The gathering witnessed the participation of over 70 employees (direct and indirect) from the Halaal Department across the country.
